    Declan Walsh (Founder)

    Declan has grown up his entire life around the tennis court. He has traveled all across Canada to compete and play in tournaments, including representing his home province at both the 2022 and 2025 Canada Games. Declan has always been passionate about inspiring future tennis generations, and has been able to do so as a coach for the St. John’s Tennis Association. He is proud to have founded this organization, and looks forward to breaking barriers to build a more inclusive and welcoming tennis community all across the province.

    Andy Ploughman (President)

    Andy has been a life-long tennis player and advocate for the ‘healthiest sport on earth’. He is a former Executive Director for Tennis Newfoundland and Labrador, and has TPA Instructor level coaching certification. Previously, Andy was an award-winning creative director at Atlantic Canada’s largest advertising agency for over 25 years. Now, he’s excited to put his marketing experience to work, helping to grow Open Courts and build it across the province.

    Emma Murray (Vice President)

    Emma grew up in St. John’s and has been an active member of the tennis community from a young age. She has competed at the Atlantic level and represented Team NL at the Canada Summer Games. With many years of coaching experience, she is passionate about creating meaningful connections with youth and growing the sport. She is currently pursuing a law degree while continuing to play university tennis at the University of New Brunswick.

    Jasmine Rahman (Secretary)

    Jasmine grew up in St. John’s and has enjoyed playing tennis since childhood. She has competed at the Atlantic and national levels and had the opportunity to play Division One NCAA tennis during her undergraduate degree in the United States. She is excited to to be back in St. John’s and contribute to the tennis community through coaching and sitting on the board of Open Courts, while pursuing a degree in medicine.

    Andrew Wright (Treasurer)

    Andrew is the Director (A) of the Sport and Recreation Division for the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts and Recreation with the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador. Andrew currently serves on several boards including: SPARC (Sport, Physical Activity and Recreation Council), which is a federal-provincial-territorial collaboration advancing sport matters in Canada, Coaching Association of Canada, Sport Tourism Event Partnership, and the Newfoundland and Labrador Sports Centre, among others. Andrew is a certified high-performance coach and is a former Senior Director for Tennis Canada and Executive Director of Tennis Newfoundland and Labrador.

    Greg Smith (Member At Large)

    Greg is born and raised in St. John’s, Newfoundland & Labrador. He is known as a national-level curler and someone who cares deeply about his community. Along with running for municipal office, he currently serves on the boards of the Newfoundland & Labrador Curling Association and the Centreville Neighbourhood Association. He has coached youth and senior curling teams, and as a casual tennis player, he has supported initiatives and even as a youth, used the Real Program that removes barriers to recreation and has a similar mission. Because of these experiences, he is proud to support Open Courts.
